A report says the outlook for the Illinois economy is bleak.

The Illinois General Assembly's non-partisan budget research group published an economic forecast for the state of Illinois.

It was prepared by Moody's Analytics for the Commission on Government Forecasting and Accountability.

The report begins: "Illinois is one of the Midwest’s weakest links, reflecting both soft job creation and the state’s descent into fiscal quicksand."

The commission's chief economist, Edward H. Boss Jr., spoke about the report with Brian Mackey.

Brian Mackey formerly reported on state government and politics for NPR Illinois and a dozen other public radio stations across the state. Before that, he was A&E editor at The State Journal-Register and Statehouse bureau chief for the Chicago Daily Law Bulletin.
