(We're revisiting this year-old interview since the musical has made a return. Friday and Saturday are the final performances at The Legacy Theatre in Springfield. Tickets here.)

Rolling Stone magazine once wrote that Hedwig and the Angry Inch is “the first rock musical that truly rocks.” The Off-Broadway musical focuses on its title character, Hedwig Schmidt – a singer from East Germany who is the victim of a botched sex-change operation. In the states Hedwig plays gigs with the band, ‘The Angry Inch.’ The music is a nod to glam-rock and the stylings of artists like David Bowie, Lou Reed, and Iggy Pop.
