"I set out to capture sunset illuminated, wooden crosses in the ancient Yaqui Indian cemetery near mission San Xavier del Bac, the 300-year-old White Dove of the Desert south of Tucson. As I set up my camera, an enormous, pale yellow Arizona Moon rose over the hills to the East. I advanced the film to capture this once-in-a-lifetime scene. No film. Alas, I was left only with an indelible mind-picture of the shining crosses, the mission and the rising moon. Of the many versions I have painted, this is where pastel is applied to coat of the paper and lighter features are achieved through use of erasers." - George
