World Cafe Presents: Saun & Starr

Saun & Starr — that's Saundra Williams and Starr Duncan Lowe — have spent many years singing soul and R&B in and around New York City. After meeting at an open-mic night in 1986, Lowe and Williams became fast friends and musical partners; the two eventually began singing with Sharon Jones and backing her performances with The Dap-Kings.

Now, Williams and Lowe are back on their own with their new album, Look Closer. As good as the record is, you have to watch this performance at Philadelphia's NON-COMMvention and experience how they take backup singers' moves and dance them to center stage.
