UIS Opens Student Union

After just roughly two years of construction, the University of Illinois Springfield’s Student Union is officially open.

Hundreds of students, staff, administration, even city leaders attended the celebratory day for the campus as its first student union is now ready for students as they return to campus from winter break this week.

University of Illinois President Tim Killeen says this is will be a campus staple moving forward. “It’s a wonderful addition to the community and the university. It’s going to be an icon for UIS into the future in terms of student recruitment and improving the student experience to a world class level.”

The more than $21 million facility is 50,000 square feet. It includes a Starbucks coffee shop, a dining area and a student leadership center.
