Founder's Residence Hall

Two men have been arrested in connection with Sunday’s stabbing on the University of Illinois Springfield campus.

University spokesman Derek Schnapp says the men were taken into custody Tuesday at the Springfield Amtrak station.

He identified them as Dominick Hudson, 21, of Springfield; and Shone Ward, 27, of Chicago.

Both men have been charged with aggravated battery with a dangerous weapon and battery in a public place. Hudson was also charged with resisting arrest.

The stabbing happened Sunday afternoon outside Founder’s Residence Hall.

Schnapp says “there’s a history” among the individuals involved in the incident. He says neither of the arrested men are UIS students, but both victims are.

He also says the victims have been released from the hospital.

Brian Mackey formerly reported on state government and politics for NPR Illinois and a dozen other public radio stations across the state. Before that, he was A&E editor at The State Journal-Register and Statehouse bureau chief for the Chicago Daily Law Bulletin.
