Gov. Bruce Rauner is moving ahead with plans to hold the Illinois State Fair next month, despite the fact that there is no budget in place to pay for it.
The Republican governor vetoed the funding for the fair, along with most of the budget bills Democrats sent to his desk.
Democratic Speaker of the House Michael Madigan says that without the budget, there is no legal authority to spend money on the event. Rauner’s office says the fair will go on as scheduled, but they said that some vendors might be paid late. The fair is scheduled to begin August 13th in Springfield.
