The Scene was our Illinois arts & culture podcast through 2017. Rachel Otwell curated the podcast which provided full-length stories and follow-ups, links to other reports, and conversations with you.This podcast contained a range of stories from the world of arts & culture, from visual art to Springfield's DIY music scene, to profiles of interesting local characters. Scott and Rachel talk about two big festivals taking place in Springfield this weekend: Pride Fest & the Old State Capitol Art Fair

For Culture Corner, Scott reviews a new punk-flavored horror film that's directed by Jeremy Saulnier and called The Green Room.  Rachel recommends Daughters of the Dust, a 1991 release that is set in 1802 and centers on three generations of women who live on islands off the coast of Georgia. It has gotten revived attentiondue to the representations of Gullah and Geechee culture in Beyonce's visual album, Lemonade.

Also mentioned: The Jayhawks play in Bloomingtonon Saturday. And in Champaign, the William M. Staerkel Planetarium hosts regular events.
