A former state lawmaker from western Illinois wants back in the general assembly.

Jil Tracy launched her campaign for state Senate in a Quincy park Monday.  She lives in the town and represented the area in the Illinois House for about a decade.

Now the Republican is trying for a Senate seat currently held by Democrat John Sullivan.  He's already announced he won't run again when his term ends.

The 11 county district, which had been a GOP stronghold before Sullivan, is considered a top target for Republicans next year.

Tracy left the House after being the Lieutenant Governor choice for Kirk Dillard, who narrowly lost his bid for the Republican nomination for governor to Bruce Rauner.

Tracy is an attorney.  Her family owns DOT Foods based in Mount Sterling.
