It's National Community Foundation Week

The week spotlights these groups that help connect philanthropists with various causes.  Locally, the Community Foundation for the Land of Lincoln manages 126 funds with a total of $17 million in assets.

John Stremsterfer, President and CEO, and Stacy Reed, Vice President of Programs, joined WUIS' Sean Crawford on Illinois Edition to talk more about the organization.

"To establish you own individual fund, depending on the type of fund, it's either $5,000 or $10,000.  We thought those were reasonable numbers to get in the game," Stremsterfer said.  "It's all about local philanthropy."

For those who want to start smaller, they can join giving circles where money from several people are pooled together.

90 percent of the money the Foundation controls is given out locally.
