* Panhandling lawsuits against city of Springfield will go to federal mediation; not uncommon as a way to try to resolve differences short of a trial; if that doesn't work, separate trials go ahead next spring.

* Urban food market: Jenny and Jon Loftus plans to open Milk & Honey Fresh Market in the 200 block of South Sixth Street downtown in next few days; couple believes enough residential development downtown to support a small grocer; something planners have been talking about for years.

* Chase Bank: Closed a longtime branch on North Grand Avenue last month as part of plan to close 300 nationwide by end of the year. It's a sign of the times, as consumers no longer use branches as often as they once did.
