Event Description

Listening leads to understanding.

To be a good listener who seeks to understand others is to become a true gift. Consider being part of a group of willing spirits who desire a compassionate setting with which to practice becoming good neighbors and citizens in our world. Over four Thursday evenings, we will visit some of the troubling aspects of our current political times, including news/media, the language of division, the downward spiral of conflict, and the uses and abuses of anger and power. By looking at the spiritual values of paradox, listening, dialogue, and witness, we will explore making citizenship more effective, keeping balance, and finding opportunity for dialogue with neighbors. This workshop is based in part on Parker Palmer's book Healing the Heart of Democracy: The Courage to Create a Politics Worthy of the Human Spirit, and will include some video sessions recorded by Mr. Palmer.
